London Bombings
England's capital has faced a terrorist attack leaving many dead or badly injured. Several bombs went off on London's public transport shaking many lives. At least 37 people have been killed and over 700 are injured. The hospitals have been jam packed with people hanging on to their lives by a thread.
One eyewitness described "half a bus flying through the air" shortly after an explosion tore apart a London bus (you can see this in the picture). The number 30 was travelling from Hackney to Marble
Arch when at 9.50am a blast ripped through it.
A rather grim Tony Blair has vowed that Britain will not be intimidated by those responsible for the London transport attacks.
We shall all be praying that those lucky enough to have survived will live to see another day.
Editor's Note: Thanks for getting this in so quickly, Olivia and thanks to Briony da Silva for the picture. No doubt others will write over the next few days as people around the world begin to reflect on this.

The Cedars Upper School New Challenge Day

Tyrone Bird, Bedfordshire
Our Year 10 Council organized an Inter-House Challenge day. The activities included Henna, Thai Chi, Football/Netball, Outdoor Challenge (which involved general problem solving), Fashion, Trampolining, Chess, Catering, Treasure hunt and others. Each student was able to pick one of these activities for each hour. There were also great performances from the Year 10 jazz band and the Year 10 drama group. The picture shows the tug of war.
Towards the end of the day, the catering team made tea, which included strawberries and cream, home made cakes and biscuits. Finally, we had our awards ceremony, with the winning house picking up our newly bought silver
cup. There were other medals given out too for the best efforts from people who won each of the single activities. The trophy has now been placed in a new trophy cabinet outside the year office.
All this wouldn’t have been able to go ahead without the help of our Head of Year, Mr Heather who
screamed, shouted and flustered about to make the Inter-House Challenge Day a success. The Deputy Head Mrs Johnson hopes that this event might become and annual activity for future Year 10 groups.

The Ashes

Robert Fisher and Mark Harlow, Bedfordshire

The Ashes cricket series happens every two years when England play Australia in different venues around the country.
It is good for our country to have the Ashes because it gives people who live in England the chance to go and see their country play against one of the best teams in world cricket. The matches are held in grounds all around the country including Lords, The Oval and many more. Our opinion on this is that we think our England cricket team is in good shape at the moment and has a chance to beat Australia this year in the Ashes. We have already beaten them in a 20/20 match this year, which is a good start. Australia also lost to Bangladesh, which was not too good for them, as we can beat them rather easily. Even though our team is in good shape at the moment, we think that Kevin Pietersen should be a definite for the team. It has not yet been decided if he is playing, but it will be announced shortly.
